Marriage

Marriage

Marriages are always held on Saturday. The entire ward is invited as well as all the extended family. Several animals are killed and the entrails are hung on the fence before being washed. Much of the cooking is done on the same day as the wedding. The extended family and the whole neighbourhood pitch in.

Often, now, a tent is rented. Guests with invitations will sit here. The ceremony will will be a Christian one in a church and the bride a groom will look much like a happy couple in North America. Often entertainment is provided by local groups in matching costumes. The next day people from the neighbourhood will arrive and share what ever is left.
